As a leading source of protein, chicken plays an important part in the Australian diet. Consumption has increased from 6kg in 1965 to an astonishing 43.9kg per person in 2010. Our research shows that one out of three people eats chicken meat at least three times a week, with just about everybody eating it at least once a week.

Profile of the Chicken Meat Industry in Australia: a new report

Chicken is recognised by consumers as being lean and with only 0.3g of saturated fat per 100g, this status is well deserved. The Lean Chicken campaign "Fly Through Your Day", in the first instance aimed at GPs, dieticians and nutritionists, makes this point. Click here to have a look at the campaign.
No added hormones
Much has been written lately about the fact that all meat chickens farmed in Australia are raised without use of hormones. This is a fact and has been a fact ever since the commercial chicken meat industry started up in Australia over half a century ago. Important news for all chicken growers: A revised and improved National Farm Biosecurity Manual for meat chicken growers is now available.
